Should You Go To The Doctor After An Accident Even Though You Feel “Okay”?

After an accident, we often have clients ask if they should go to the doctor even if they do not feel much pain. The answer is: ABSOLUTELY! Now, we at the Nicoletti Law Firm are not doctors and we are not providing you with any type of medical advice in this article. But, we do have an obligation to provide counsel and want to make sure that you are safe.

Often times, injuries may not present themselves right away, even after an accident. It is in your best interest to get checked out by a qualified medical professional to determine if you do or do not have an injury. Even if you do have injuries, but think are they are not severe or will go away on their own, still get checked out. It is better to be safe and make sure you are healthy rather than having to deal with a severe medical injury that developed but could have been prevented with proper medical care if it would have been diagnosed earlier.

Furthermore, if you wait too long and then develop a medical condition that arose from the accident, you could miss out on insurance coverage that could pay for medical bills from treating that injury. Personal Injury Protection coverage, also known as PIP coverage, covers 80% of medical expenses and 60% of your lost wages up to $10,000. However, in order to qualify for PIP coverage, you must receive medical attention within 14 days of the accident or you could lose that coverage.

It has always been our number #1 objective at the Nicoletti Law Firm to make sure that our clients become healthy once more. Even if you think you are “okay” after an accident, it is in your best interest to get checked out by a medical professional to make sure. Be safe everyone!
