Fourth of July Weekend: Are You Prepared To Travel?

Fourth of July Weekend is a wonderful time for family, friends, and fireworks. It is also a huge travel event. Traffic will be heavier than usual. Review these travel tips before you start on your journey this Fourth of July Weekend:

1. Inspect your vehicle. Make sure your tires and brakes are checked for any issues. Also, be sure to check that your fluids are at the proper levels as well.

2. Be alert in “stop and go” traffic.  Even though you are operating at a low speed, car accidents in “stop and go” traffic can still happen. Be sure to be alert and watch for sudden stops from vehicles in front of you.

3. Take time to rest. As you become fatigued, your motor skills can diminish. If you can switch drivers during the trip. By staying rested, you are more likely to keep others safe.

4. Keep an eye on the weather. It is the summertime, therefore storms are more likely. Be sure to keep an eye out for inclimate weather.

5. Follow all traffic signs and signals. Be sure to follow all traffic signs and signals. You may go to a state with different laws than you state, make sure to be aware of those.

6. Update your family. Be sure to alert your family where you are from time to time. If there is an emergency, it is important that they have an idea of where you are so they can send help.

7. Look up the best route. Acclimate yourself with the area you are going and research the best route. The GPS may not always be the best way to go.

8. Wear your seatbelt! No matter how long the trip, it is important that you stay buckled up. If an accident occurs, a more significant injury may happen if you are not properly restrained.
