Port Richey Pedestrians: How Safe Are You?

Port Richey is a beautiful community in Pasco County which is one of the primary reasons why we decided to place our main office there. If you have been to Port Richey, you may have noticed numerous pedestrians making their way on foot around town. However, getting around town by foot is not as safe of an activity as it once was according to a recent study. A recent report stated that Florida had the 5th highest death rate in the United States when it comes to deaths caused by pedestrian accidents.

303 Pedestrian Accident-Related Deaths

The report stated that there were an estimated 6,000 pedestrian accident-related deaths in the United States in 2017 and 303 of them occurred in Florida between January 2017 and June 2017. Therefore, we wanted to provide a few tips for not only Port Richey pedestrians, but for all pedestrians to consider next time they are about to travel on foot. We understand that it should not be only your responsibility to make the right choices as a traveler sharing the road. However, you should do what you can to minimize your chances of being involved in a pedestrian accident.

Pedestrian Safety Tips

1. Cross only at a crosswalk or designated crossing area.

2. Wear bright clothing, especially when traveling on foot at night.

3. Walk for the proper signal to give you permission to cross before going.

4. Watch for distracted drivers.

5. Get across the street safely and swiftly.

6. Do not cross without enough time to cross safely.

7. Look left, right, and then left again before crossing.

8. Always walk on the sidewalk when there is one available.

9. Do not wear headphones or be distracted by a phone.

10. Stand clear of the street when waiting to cross.

Pedestrian Accident Injuries

When pedestrian accidents occur, they can be quite severe. Some common injuries that occur include but are not limited to:

– Whiplash

– Neck Injuries

– Concussions

– Traumatic Brain Injuries

– Back Injuries

– Shoulder Injuries

– Bone Fractures

– Death

– Spinal Cord Injuries

If you think that you have been injured due to a pedestrian accident, be sure to contact a qualified medical provider immediately. Our #1 concern at the Nicoletti Law Firm is your health and that should not be taken lightly. Many injuries may not appear until days after the accident. It is best to get checked out by a qualified medical provider as soon as possible in order to rule out any potential injuries and to treat any injuries that may have already appeared.
