TIPS FOR DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT

With the holiday season upon us, parking lots can be loaded with cars in every spot and parking garage. People are moving at a faster pace and cars are in a rush to get the holiday shopping over with. Car accidents can happen and even at a low speed, severe injuries can occur. Therefore, it is up to you to make sure that you do everything you can to prevent an accident from happening. Here are a few tips to remember this holiday season when driving in a parking lot:

Back out of your spot slowly. Often times people can dart out and other cars can come out of nowhere. Make sure to check all mirrors and do not solely rely on your back up camera. Even if there is someone waiting for your spot, do not rush. They will be waiting a lot longer if you were to get into an accident.

Have your radio set, your phone put away, and your GPS ready. Make sure that there are no distractions while parking, pulling out of a spot, or driving in a parking lot. These small distractions can cause a big problem, so have everything set the way you like before driving.

Put on your seatbelt. You should always wear your seatbelt whenever operating a vehicle but some people like to wait until they leave the parking lot. Even at low speeds, accidents and injuries can occur. Therefore, wear your seatbelt to prevent more serious damage to your health.

Watch for all traffic signs and signals. Be aware of all stop signs and yield signs. Sometimes they are just painted on the ground. If you do not see a speed limit sign, drive with caution and at a low speed until you discover one.

Expect the unexpected. Holidays can cause individuals to become more easily distracted. Be ready for pedestrians to walk out into traffic without warning and cars driving in a rush. It is best for you to take your time and drive defensively.

No one wants an accident this holiday season, or ever for that matter. But, when driving in a parking lot, we often go into a false sense of security that we are in less danger while operating a vehicle. That is definitely not the case, especially around the holidays. Take this as a friendly reminder from the Personal Injury Attorneys at Nicoletti Law Firm. Accidents CAN happen in parking lots but you can avoid them if you proceed with caution. Have an incredible holiday all and remember, the Personal Injury Attorneys of the Nicoletti Law Firm are available for you 24/7/365. Stay safe!
